In a major development, American Pastor Andrew Brunson has been moved from the Turkish prison to his house in Turkey

Brunson released from Aliaga Prison in Izmir, Turkey, on Wednesday, July 25.

(Washington, DC) – The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) announced today that Turkish authorities have agreed to permit American Pastor Andrew Brunson to leave prison and return to his home in Turkey.

The ACLJ represents the family of Pastor Andrew – a U.S. citizen from Black Mountain, North Carolina – who has spent nearly 21 months imprisoned in Turkey because of his Christian faith.  Pastor Andrew has been on trial for the crime of “Christianization,” and the ACLJ has been working in this country and abroad to secure his freedom.

Orders of his release have been confirmed

“We have confirmed that the Turkish government has issued an order releasing Pastor Andrew Brunson from prison and allowing him to be returned to his home in Turkey,” said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. “This is a critical first step that we believe will result in the freedom of Pastor Brunson so he can return to the United States and be reunited with his family.  The President has played a critical role in securing the freedom of Pastor Brunson.  We have worked closely with the President on this matter and are grateful for his efforts.  We look forward to the ultimate release of Pastor Brunson.”

In its representation of Pastor Andrew’s family, the ACLJ mobilized its international resources – including ACLJ-affiliated offices in the region –seeking Pastor Andrew’s freedom. The ACLJ launched a global campaign to generate awareness of Pastor Andrew’s plight and called on the U.S. State Department, as well as international organizations – including the United Nations as well as NATO member countries – to demand Turkey – a NATO member – release Pastor Andrew.

Continue to pray for Pastor Brunson and the ACLJ

The ACLJ has been advocating for the protection of Christians and other religious minorities for years. The ACLJ also has been very active in working to bring an end to the persecution of Christians taking place in many parts of the world.

We will keep you updated as the situation progresses. Please continue to pray for Pastor Andrew and his family.

Efforts to free Pastor Brunson has been led by Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, at the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ). The ACLJ focuses on constitutional law and is based in Washington, D.C. You can learn more about Jay Sekulow and the ACLJ online at www.aclj.org.
