Praying in Crisis
The value of praying during trying times.

The COVID-19 Crononavirus has many people worried and fearful. Its rapid spreading causes worries. And this generation has yet to prepare itself for widespread suffering.

The Church is also struggling to find a proper or biblical response to what appears to be more like a medieval plague than anything else.

What do we do when responses are limited?

How should a Christian respond to the fears and unknown aspects of this virus? Should we run into isolation? Do we have any obligation to care for those vulnerable to respiratory illnesses? Is there anything we can do to stem the panic feelings of helplessness? How do we practice community when it is necessary to limit contact with others.

These are real concerns and need a biblical response. As a Pastor, I am encouraging everyone to do what I think is the most effective thing to do whenever we face a crisis. We need to pray. No virus can halt prayer and no disease is more powerful than Almighty God.

Prayer is a powerful tool for finding peace.

For the next two weeks, I will be posting a two-part mini-series on how to pray during turbulent times. These talks take advantage of the time we now have as we voluntarily practice social distancing. Hopefully, this will help our communities to get the Crononavirus under control. It’s an aggressive virus, unlike anything we have experienced. But, crises like this have faced the Church before. Some worse than the coronavirus. Yet, the Church is called upon to continue its mission in the face of a social crisis.

What is God doing?

My prayer is that these talks will give you guidance and assurance that God was not caught off guard when the Coronavirus began to spread. He has not lost control of His world. If we want to face this crisis responsibly and caringly, we need to begin by using the means of grace God offers to us in times of duress–prayer.
